Adopting 16 year old boy for the holidays

Over this Christmas holiday my family is adopting a young 16 year old boy who loves poetry and has been on his own since 13 due to abandonment. I feel so fortunate to have a warm, safe, love filled life, and ever since I had my son (19 months ago now), I cannot read, see or hear about a young child, a young boy in particular, in distress without my eyes welling up.

This charity is arranged every holiday season by The Glencoe Club, and every year gone by I have walked down the hallway showcasing all the various children in need thinking how good it would be to get involved, and then inevitably despite my good intentions, the season would pass and I’d failed to take action.

There’s a small poem that is featured on the charity information wall ~

“I shall pass this way but once; any good, therefore,

that I can do or any kindness that I can show

to any human being, let me do it now.

Let me not defer nor neglect it,

for I shall not pass this way again.”

What is something meaningful you’ve been wanting to do for someone else?

ps, if anyone has anything they’d be willing to pass along to help complete this young boys survival backpack, it would be received with open arms (ideas – journal, poetry writing, hoodie, foods, flashlight, backpack, giftcards, yoga pass to a downtown Calgary studio).

Namaste
